The somewhat conjoined
online and offline activities
of René Dijk.

I am Orpion

Actually, I am René Dijk. A human being with indispensable and necessary urges for creative outlets and a strong impulse to work together with other proficient and inventive inhabitants of this strange world.

Orpion is my comprehensive alter-ego, enabling me to display my work, to open up a portal to the outside world and to initiate fresh minded collaborative projects.

Bigger than me

The projects are in fact what give this website its true pizzazz and zest. They are my humble attempt to breath life into a creativity that sometimes is just a little bigger than me.

My first idea: The mook*
The set-up: writers write short surrealistic or strange stories, musicians and bands make songs to those stories and, finally, artists create (digital) works of art to blend everything together.
My second idea: A book
I'll rise to the occassion as a self-proclaimed writer to produce my very own brand of short stories. Half of which inspiring, the other half inspired by illustrative artwork of Aart-Jan Venema.

Orpion, offline?
Tomorrow, on Ash Wednesday, I will start my 40-day Lent period. Although I'm not religious in any way, a very dear friend convinced me to consider, as she has done in the past years herself, the spirit of Lent; to test myself in some kind of "self-denial".

I found myself intrigued by the idea and by now have come up with a good way to undergo some righteous ego-penance. Usual this self-denial consists of not smoking or drinking for more than a month (or something similar), but my 40 days will know no internet and no watching of series or movies, or using my computer for anything else than writing or listening to music.

In other words, I'll prohibit myself a) using software that does require online access, be it on my computer or mobile phone, and b) indulging myself in most modern media. No MSN, Facebook, Google, downloading... it's a real challenge, seeing I consider myself somewhat internet addicted, but that is, of course, the whole point of this undertaking! ^_^'

As per the tradition, only on Sundays am I allowed to momentarily lift the self-denial, but I will use this 'loophole' as less as possible to keep in the real spirit of things.

Lent ends on the day before Easter. In the meantime, don't expect updates (to the website or my blogs) or news. Wish me luck! No, really, do!

New times, new design
I've been absent for quite a while now, so I decided to suprise myself and everyone else with a new design. Besides the obvious reasons, it's always a good excuse to get one's bearings and finally get to updating all relevant information.

"Orpion, the mook*" has been finished. At least, the digital version has been 'completed' and an expensive dummy has been printed. It is time to take the next steps. Read on for more information!
